For the past 11 years, the NCPRSA chapter, each spring, hosts an annual Inspire Awards Gala recognizing the area’s best public relations campaigns, strategies and tactics! We welcome award entries from across central and eastern North Carolina. To judge our chapter’s awards, we partner with another PRSA chapter who evaluates our submissions from our entrants.
The Silver InSpire Awards honor excellence in PR campaigns, while Bronze InSpire Awards focus on specific tactics. NCPRSA models its awards after PRSA’s national Silver and Bronze Anvil awards by evaluating entries with this structure: Research, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation.
We honor about 60-65 winners each awards season, and we recognize and celebrate these awesome PR professionals at a gala awards dinner, typically held the end of May. Sponsorship and group table opportunities are available for companies who are looking to get in front of a trailblazing group of communications all-stars!
2019 Inspire Award Winners
The 2019 Inspire Award Winners were announced at this year’s gala hosted on May 22, 2019 at the City Club in downtown Raleigh. Donald Thomspon, CEO of Walk West agency, gave an inspiring keynote speech about the agency’s recent work with the North Carolina State Fair. Guests also had time to network with Past NCPRSA Presidents and other award winners during the cocktail reception. Thank you to the more than 50 attendees that made this a meaningful and fun evening!

- G&S Business Communications took home the Silver InSpire Award for Best in Show in the Global Communications category for “Calliope Geraniums Bloom into Europe”
Syngenta Flowers is a global leader in plant breeding with a strong history in developing genetics for commercial growers and retailers. In 2018, the company wanted to launch a variety directly to consumers for the first time, building a recognizable brand around a premium genetic. Geraniums have become commodity products with many varieties available, leaving consumers confused about which is best. Calliope were created to meet consumer needs for easy-to-care-for, longlasting, colorful geraniums. Syngenta Flowers engaged G&S Business Communications to introduce Calliope in key European countries by showcasing its benefits compared to traditional geraniums, building brand visibility and driving sales.
- Clairemont Communications took home the Bronze Inspire Award for Best in Show in the Media Relations category for “Theodore Alexander and Lord Spencer Unveil Royal Furniture”
Imagine hanging out in Toronto, one of the greatest cities in the world, with Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, just five days after Prince Harry’s royal wedding. This is exactly what Clairemont Communications got to do when hired to promote a furniture collection that Lord Spencer designed in partnership with North Carolina-based furniture manufacturer, Theodore Alexander. Clairemont’s noble efforts generated royal results, including a feature story on a national morning show, several lifestyle magazine articles and placements in The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail.

How to Write an Award Winning Entry
We will be offering more information throughout the year about how to start thinking about your campaigns and tactics to make all your work award worthy! Check back for more information on a professional development seminar where we will share tips and tricks to write award winning entries. This will make submitting your entries next spring a breeze!
Judging a Fellow Chapter’s Awards
Just like we have a chapter help us out by judging our award entries, we also give back and judge another chapter’s award entries as well. This year we partnered with the Houston PRSA chapter and had 35 NCPRSA judges scoring these campaigns and tactics. This is always a wonderful learning opportunity to read and judge some great public relations programs and learn what makes an entry outstanding.
