The hospital provides 186 inpatient beds and a comprehensive array of services, including the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center, Duke Raleigh Orthopedic and Spine Center, cardiovascular services, neurosciences including the Duke Raleigh Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Center, advanced digestive care, disease management and prevention, wound healing, outpatient imaging, intensive and progressive care, pain clinic, same-day surgery, emergency department and community outreach and education programs
U.S. News & World Report ranked Duke Raleigh Hospital as high performing in orthopaedics and two adult procedures/conditions: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer surgery.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the creation and implementation of internal communications campaigns/plans, strategies, tactics, timelines, budgets, and key performance indicators to support entity business objectives and priorities. This position will be responsible for supporting the leadership team at Duke Raleigh Hospital and developing and monitoring communications plans and tactics to ensure maximum effectiveness. In addition, this position will be responsible for collaborating with Duke University Hospital and DUHS Corporate Communications as well as the Duke Health marketing communications department to incorporate system-wide organizational communication activities and campaigns.
Work Performed:
Proactively evaluate and respond to entity communications needs and develop innovative, multi-channel communication strategies, campaigns, events and materials.
Translate communication needs from multiple audiences into communications deliverables.
Serve as content development editor responsible for writing creative, story-driven content highlighting team members’ contributions reinforcing Duke Health’s mission, vision and values.
Plan, edit and write content for multi-channel internal and external marketing communications channels, including print, digital, audio video, event programming/scripts, signage, spokesperson presentations, web-based media, intranet copy, email, newsletter articles and social media.
Collaborate with entity leadership and partners to understand communications requirements and advise them on communications channels and messaging focused on organizational transformation, employee engagement, change initiatives, strategic planning and clinical/operational excellence.
Plan in-person and virtual events, meetings and presentations from concept through implementation (themes, programming, promotional strategy, logistics, event management, materials and post event analysis), including town halls, team forums, recognition activities, building openings, celebrations, community outreach events/sponsorships, and leadership meetings.
Ensure consistency and alignment with Duke Health messaging across internal channels and apply brand design standards and positioning to communications materials.
Execute all components of communications plans within target budget and timelines.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field is required.

Experience
Minimum: Four years of related experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing with demonstrated experience in driving the implementation of strategic communications plans, tactics and innovations.

Work experience should include participation in communications plan development and projects that range from digital content and collateral material creation and development to highly-targeted, audience-specific initiatives.
Application requirement:
A writing and communications work samples portfolio demonstrating work experience.

Preferred Experience:
Work experience should include supervision of teams and vendor management.
Hospital or health care marketing communications industry experience.
Management experience: Two years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with team members, leadership, internal audiences and community partners.
Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
Knowledge of new communications channels that reach audiences in person, or through virtual, digital and social media (i.e., virtual events, gamification, interactive learning classes, live streaming, animation videos).
Proven skills as a writer and editor with highly strategic approach to messaging, timing, and communication channels to deliver relevant information on organizational culture, system alerts, operational updates and HR policies.
Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple audiences, across different roles, departments, locations and work environments (onsite and virtual).
Drives communications initiatives through research, innovation, stakeholder engagement and a clear understanding of how to reach audiences through an integrated, strategic approach.
Leads and coaches direct reports by providing a positive, collaborative work environment that helps teams advance their career development and marketing communications skills.
Experience in crisis communications with the ability to counsel stakeholders regarding communications messaging, priorities and channels for operational updates and media responses.

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in a secondary language both spoken and written.
Ability to work quickly and under pressure, including outside of ordinary business hours.
Attention to detail, highly organized and proficient at project management and reporting.
Knowledge of AP Style.
Skills in basic graphic design, photography, and/or videography
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and similar software/services commonly used by communications professionals.
