New Hanover County's Communications & Outreach Department is seeking an experienced and creative communications and digital media professional responsible for managing social media platforms, promotional campaigns and digital communications for New Hanover County. This position contributes to the planning and implementation of a comprehensive media outreach program by creating positive messaging regarding the core services of New Hanover County Government and its commitment to outstanding public service. This is accomplished through developing and implementing effective communication, marketing and public education strategies; identifying target audiences and communication profiles; ensuring consistent brand management and graphic design services; developing digital promotional campaigns; evaluating analytics to ensure the effectiveness of digital communications; and ensuring the website is well-designed and user-friendly.

Duties include developing and coordinating a social media strategy, website updates, video productions and graphic design projects, based on county priorities and timelines; coordinating with county department leaders to develop and schedule strategic, targeted messaging; producing, developing content, and writing material for TV and social media; managing projects to effectively meet deadlines and ensure accurate messaging; conducting outreach into the community; marketing and promoting events and services; responding to inquiries about initiatives, services, and programs promoted by the county, or referring inquirers to appropriate points of contact; assisting the Chief Communications Officer with organizing and informing the media and public about special initiatives, policy decisions, messaging, and events and in developing and editing executive communications; speeches; talking points; and other written, visual, and verbal materials; measuring outcomes and tracking effectiveness of outreach and internal communications and making appropriate recommendations for changes, as necessary; ensuring all established policies related to digital media content are followed; and serving as Public Information Officer during emergency/disaster situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in communications, public administration, marketing, or a related field. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in digital communications, marketing, social media management, design or project management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to successfully frame information for delivery to various groups of people as well as excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to form and sustain relationships with diverse groups of people including citizens, media representatives, political officials, employees and executives. Demonstrated expertise in social media marketing and digital communications, managing projects and creative workflow, and web content management systems. Experience working in a government or public sector role is highly desired.

Annual Salary: $54,282 (negotiable, based on experience)
