Director of Communications and Public Relations

The Director of Communications and Public Relations will work with the Vice President, Marketing and Philanthropy and other division colleagues to develop and maintain internal and external communications and public relations strategies to support Monarch’s goals, ensure the success of the company’s business objectives and enhance its image and reputation.

  • In partnership with Vice President of Marketing and Philanthropy and advertising agency of record, develop and implement an integrated, data-driven communications strategy incorporating marketing, public relations, digital and social media efforts.

  • Develop and create content succinct and engaging content for website, social media posts, news releases, emails, newsletters, print publications, scripts, employee profiles, announcements and tailor to diverse/targeted audiences as appropriate.

  • Serve as project manager in the development and support of special communication projects to support company-wide external and internal communications initiatives. Manages a portfolio of projects both independently and as a member of project teams, working with service line departments and administrative units (human resources, finance, employee engagement) to develop and implement communication plans.

  • Supervise communications manager position(s) as determined by future department needs.

  • Create and manage the annual editorial calendar and work with division colleagues to schedule and create division communications.

  • Serve as media relations contact and develop story pitches, press kits and identify Monarch experts for media and brand exposure opportunities. In partnership with VP, coordinate crisis communications according to standard operating procedures.

  • Serve as managing editor of Momentum, Monarch’s printed newsletter and annual impact reports and provide editorial support in production of other printed materials. 

  • Educate and enforce brand standards to internal customers and stakeholders and maintain consistency of brand, editorial tone and style.

  • To track brand trends and media engagement, develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual media and communication activity reports.

  • Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required. Maintain certification in all agency, state and federal training requirements.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal statutes and regulations related to specific program areas.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in crisis situations.

  • Complete all other relevant responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Travel and driving may be required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or other relevant discipline
  • 5+ years professional experience in marketing and communications field
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy, while possessing the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Health care experience a plus
