The Director of the Office of Research Communications (ORC) manages the communications office that serves the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research (OVCR) and works with OVCR senior leadership and the University to develop and execute communications strategy for UNC-Chapel Hill’s $1.1 billion research enterprise. He or she communicates and promotes the impact and value of research at UNC-Chapel Hill externally and internally and increases public and private awareness and support for the University’s research mission. The Director accomplishes this by driving the communication of strategic messages through a variety of media platforms; leading and overseeing the staff and content creation of the ORC; developing and disseminating stories of University research and impact; and maintaining close working relationships with key leaders, communicators and media outlets both in and outside of the University. The Director maintains and nurtures working collaborative partnerships with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Communications, the Offices of Federal and State Affairs, communicators at the University’s schools and College of Arts & Sciences, as well as communicators at research centers and institutes within and outside of the OVCR. The Director reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. The position is based in Chapel Hill, NC.
