PPD’s global corporate communications team is seeking a new addition as an external communications manager. As an external communications manager, you are part of an extraordinary team, reporting to the director of external communications and producing and managing strategic and tactical external communications programs in support of PPD’s mission of helping deliver life-changing therapies to improve health. This highly collaborative individual works with multiple stakeholders to create and manage projects and to author and develop highly engaging written content for a variety of primarily external audiences, across communications channels.

- Work closely with business stakeholders and marketing colleagues to identify, develop and execute projects
- Serve as member of media relations team and contribute to strategy and execution of media plans
- Develop corporate news releases, key messaging and talking point documents, holding statements, FAQs and other media-related documents
- Proactively pitch PPD stories to key media targets and build sustained, productive relationships with key reporters, editors
- Coordinate distribution of releases via Business Wire
- Utilize media monitoring and contact tools, including Meltwater
- Help manage online newsroom, spokespersons list, media lists, results trackers, etc.
- Contribute to strategy and own execution of honors and accolades program, including researching and recommending appropriate opportunities supporting business priorities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to prepare nominations and other supporting materials for honors and accolades opportunities, including news releases, employee announcements, social media content support, PowerPoint “wins” deck, website pages, etc.
- Collaborate with digital team on strategy and external communications content for social media channels and corporate blog
- Update content for corporate communications section of website (including company honors, newsroom, etc.)
- Perform other corporate communications duties as needed/assigned

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing) or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
- Previous experience in corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications or related discipline that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years’) or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- At least two years of direct experience is preferred in corporate communications, corporate positioning, media relations and/or integrated communications, and an understanding of social media

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong writing and editing skills are required, along with experience in applying AP Style
- A demonstrated ability to proactively manage multiple deadline-driven projects in a collaborative, matrixed environment and to write compelling content requiring minimal editing
- Microsoft Office suite of products (primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Nitro Pro
- Ability to communicate effectively, using excellent oral and written communication skills, with a broad audience, including medical, legal and highly specialized technical individuals at all levels within the company and with media, clients, sites, vendors, consultants and other stakeholders
- Ability to identify areas for improvement/change
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work load and juggle competing priorities
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills
- Ability to effectively work with ambiguity and complexity

Management Role:
- No management responsibility

Working Conditions and Environment:
- Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment
- Potential for some travel both domestic and international at times

Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day
- Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
- Frequent mobility required
- Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck
- Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs
- Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups
