Use your talents as a creative writer and persuasive communicator to generate public excitement and drive media awareness for our multiple brands (including but not limited to The Diversity Movement, Donald Thompson, and Diversity: Beyond the Checkbox). This is a unique opportunity for a driven, visionary professional to catapult each brand’s success through compelling content and strong media relationships. Half of the responsibilities within this role will be dedicated to promoting the awareness of the brand of Donald Thompson, named in Forbes’ Next 1000: The Upstart Entrepreneurs Redefining the American Dream.
Create forward-thinking content to reflect each brand’s identity including press releases, media outreach materials, editorial briefs, talking points, op-eds, speeches, presentations, etc.
Contribute to and manage each brand’s social media account to foster growth and engagement.
Provide compelling content (videos, articles, etc.) to fully optimize donaldthompson.com
Maintain a keen understanding of industry news to produce content reflecting each brand’s voice and the mission of the organization.
Ideate and execute for each brands’ awareness initiatives, including influencer activations, monthly newsletters, email campaigns, awareness events, paid media campaigns, and digital marketing campaigns.
Create long-term relationships with high-level contacts that shape public opinion including journalists, editors, influential opinion leaders, trade associations, and bloggers across multiple projects and initiatives.
Organize virtual and in-person events for media, sponsors, and brand partners.
Own media opportunities from start to finish, including the pitching of press, booking of press visits, and interviews.
Leverage existing relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media.
Research and submit award applications to organizations and publications with strong visibility for greatest impact.
Develop systems and tools to optimize and enhance our media outreach.
Set a proactive PR agenda across new and emerging channels for interviews, press releases, and events.
Coordinate content calendar with marketing to leverage business growth and building brand equity.
Monitor, analyze, and communicate PR results to leadership team.
Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising on an on-going basis.
Reporting and adjusting strategies and methods based on performance analytics
5+ years of Public Relations experience.
Impeccable content writing and editing with the ability to multi-task for multiple brand messaging across numerous mediums (including social media, media outreach, op-eds, speeches, etc.).
Articulate, succinct, and comfortable with public speaking and presentations.
Competency in diversity, equity, and inclusion a plus
Driven, creative thinker and inspired storyteller.
Adept at developing and managing relationships and naturally persuasive with requests.
Solutions-oriented with an understanding of how best to prioritize and manage projects simultaneously while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrates a high level of organizational skills with great attention to detail.
Enjoys working with an ambitious, smart, and open-minded team that is passionate about the organization’s mission.
Ability to work independently with a high level of ownership, but understands when to seek direction.
